History...

This territory was already inhabited during prehistoric age (finds of Bronze and Iron ages were found). Then it was conquered by Lucani and Romans. The feud of Caselle belonged to Princes of Salerno. During Angevin period, especially during the years of Vespro war (1282 - 1302) fought by Angevins of Naples and Aragons of Sicily, Caselle was one of the castrum (fortress) of the inner defensive line, as the ruins of the tower testify. Caselle had several feudatories, among them Sanseverino and Mazzarotta, until 1806 when feudalism was suppressed.
